Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the high load characteristic of a porous air electrode for an air cell, by forming a kneaded mixture containing a volatile fluidized matter into a sheet, before the volatile matter is evaporated to obtain the porous air electrode. CONSTITUTION:A positive can 1 also serves as a positive terminal and has an air supply hole 2 in its bottom. An air electrode 3 containing current collecting bodies 4 made of an alkali-proof metal in its center, is placed in the can 1, with a paper 7 with an excellent permeability and an air trasmitting membrane 8 which is made of Teflon and has many fine holes placed between the can 1 and the electrode 3. A negative can 9 packed with both a negative body 6 made of gel-like zinc powder and an electrolyte holding material 5, is palced over the electrode 3. After that, a gasket 10 is interposed between the cans 1 and 9, before the end of the can 1 is inwardly curved to seal the battery. After that, the air supply hole 2 is sealed with a sealing material 11, and the whole constitutes a button-type air cell. The air electrode 3 is prepared by forming a mixture, which consists of a carbon matter containing a metal chelate compound such as cobalt porphyrin, fine Teflon grains used as a water repellent binder, and white kerosene which is a volatile fluidized organic matter, into a sheet, before the white kerosene contained in the sheet is evaporated.
