Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the collapsing property of a mold in castings of low casting temps. by adding and mixing a solid phenolic resin, phosphate and a lubricant in limited mixing ratios to and with silica sand heated to prescribed temps. CONSTITUTION:The coated sand prepd. bh coating 1.5-3pts.wt. solid phenolic resin on 100pts.wt. silica sand heated to 100-200 deg.C then coating 0.15-1.5pts.wt. phosphate thereon and further adding and mixing 0.5-0.3pt.wt. lubricant is used. The reasons for limiting the respective mixing ratios lie in that, if the solid phenolic resin is <1.5pts.wt., the mold will break in the stage of molding. If it >3pts.wt., collapsing property degrades. If the phosphate is <0.15, the effect of improving collapsing property is small and in >1.5pts.wt., the melt-sticking point drops. If the lubricant is <0.05, blockings occurs, and in >0.3pt.wt., the adhesive force among the sand particles is degraded.
