Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an antifouling paint composition having excellent storage stability, free from deterioration of the coating characteritics such as defects caused by thickening, capable of exhibiting constantly excellent antifouling property, and suitable as a ship bottom paint, by using a copolymer containing triorganic tin compound, copper, and a chelating agent as essential components.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition is prepared by using (A) 5W50(wt)%, based on the whole solid content of the paint, of a tri-organic tin-containing copolymer (e.g. obtained by the copolymerization of a polymerizable unsaturated monobasic acid such as acrylic acid and a polymerizable unsaturated monomer such as methyl methacrylate), (B) 10W70% copper or a copper compound (e.g. cuprous oxide), and 0.01W10.0pts.wt. based on 100pts. of the component (A), of a chelating agent (e.g. ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid).
