Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide very easily homogenizable optical glass consisting basically of SiO2, BaO, PbO, ZrO2 and R'O (R'=Ca, Sr and Zn) and having desired optical properties, superior acid resistance and a small devitrification tendency.
CONSTITUTION: This optical glass has a composition consisting of, by weight, 28W40% SiO2, 0W7% B2O3, 20W46% BaO, 2W6% ZrO2, 5W15% one or more among CaO, SrO and ZnO, 5W32% PbO, 0W3% Al2O3, 0W6% TiO2, 0W3% R2O (R=Li, Na and K) and 0W1% Al2O3 and/or Sb2O3. This optical glass has optical properties such as 1.66W1.74 refractive index nd and about 35W50 Abbe's number Vd, and it is superior to conventional glass in acid resistance. This optical glass contains no expensive component, has a small devitrification tendency, and is easily homogenizable, so it can be manufactured in large quantities by an ordinary method.
