Abstract
PURPOSE:To relieve an unrecognizable character as a recognizable character and shorten the reading time, by correcting the reference point of the character pattern to a position obtained by analogy on a basis of the reference point of a recognizable character pattern near this unrecognizable character pattern. CONSTITUTION:Characters printed on a form are read by a reading part 11 and are converted to binary information through an A/D converting part 12 and a slice circuit, and are stored temporarily in a data storage part 13. Every one region of contents in this storage part 13 is readout to a character pattern center detecting circuit 14, and center coordinates are obtained from positions of respective middles of a horizontal length X and a vertical length Y of the character pattern on a basis of the character pattern and are sent to a comparing circuit 15. These obtaned center coordinates are compared with center coordinates of a standard pattern table 16 in this circuit 15 by the mask matching method. If the character pattern cannot be recognized, the address of the character and the character pattern are sent to a character center correcting part 21, and center coordinates are corrected to a position obtained by analogy on a basis of the reference point of a recognizable character pattern near this unrecognizable character pattern, and the character pattern is compared with standard patterns again in thecircuit 15 by the matching method, thus enhancing the reading rate.
