Abstract
PURPOSE:To mass-produce articles provided with arts-and-crafts patterns or the like inexpensively, by a method wherein before a coated surface of a coated article is completely hardened, a picture layer is transferred onto the coated surface from a transfer sheet comprising a water-swellable sheet as a base sheet, and then the water-swellable sheet is stripped. CONSTITUTION:A desired picture layer 8 is printed in an oil base ink on the water-swellable (or water-soluble) base sheet (e.g. a cellophane film) 7 to produce the transfer sheet 9, and on the other hand, a coating material composed of an acrylic resin or the like is coated on a base material (e.g. an Al plate) 10 to produce the coated article 12. During when the coated surface 11 of the article 12 is in an incompletely hardened condition, the transfer sheet 9 is laid on the coated surface 11 and is pressed by a press roller 13 and a back-up roller 14. Thereafter, the laminate is immersed in water, the base sheet 7 is stripped through expansion, then a transparent coating material is coated on the article 12 having the picture layer 8 transferred thereon, and is subjected to a baking treatment to produce a coated article with a picture.
