PURPOSE:To generate no black line on the end part of a received picture, by always sending a white signal as for a part of constant width of both ends of an original, irrespective of a result of read. CONSTITUTION:A line image sensor 1 reads an original by synchronizing with a pulse signal phiT generated by an oscillator 2. Also, when a one-shot circuit 4 is triggered by a signal obtained by frequency-dividing the pulse signal generated by the oscillator 2, a signal phiX for deciding a picture nondetecting range is obtained. In case when it is desired to set the number of picture elements of 1 line portion to 2048 and to whiten the width corresponding to 16 picture element of the end, a binary counter of 11 bits is used. When the signals phiT, phiX are inputted to the binary counter 11, a gate 9 is controlled so as to output a white signal of 16 picture element portion, read information of 2016 picture element portion, and also a white signal corresponding to 16 picture elements.
