Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance efficiency of irradiation of ultra-violet rays and to compact the construction by furnishing a water-cooled jacket, consisting of an inner and an outer tube, around the light emitting tube and by installing in its inside a cylindrical filter which is to permit ultra-violet rays to pass through and to absorb heat rays. CONSTITUTION:Around the light emitting tube 1, consisting of a metal halide lamp, is installed a water-cooled jacket 2 of quarts glass composed of an inner 3 and an outer 4 tube and equipped with an outlet 5 and an intake 6 to let a cooling liquid flow through. In the passage for this cooling liquid provided inside the jacket 2, a cylindrical filter 7 made of glass with low melting point for the purpose of permitting ultra-violet rays to pass through and absorb heat rays is installed to form a discharge lamp radiating ultra-violet rays. According to this arrangement, where a particular water-cooled jacket 2 with double construction is incorporated, a discharge lamp can be compacted without claiming any change of the characteristic as well as location of the filter 7 at the passage for the cooling liquid prevents effectively embrittlement fracture of filter 7 by heats.
