Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent scale deposition for a prolonged period of time, by coating the inner wall of a polymerization kettle with a solution of a copolymer consisting of specified two kinds of monomers and (co)polymerizing a vinyl monomer in an aqueous medium in the kettle.
CONSTITUTION: In (co)polymerizing a vinyl monomer in an aqueous medium, the inner wall of the polymerization kettle used is coated with a copolymer consisting of a monomer which is an N-alkyl-substituted aminoalkyl group-containing (meth)acrylate of formulaI, wherein R1 is H or CH3, R2 is an N-monoalkyl- substituted aminoalkyl or an N-dialkyl-substituted aminoalkyl, (e.g., dimethylaminoethyl acrylate) and a monomer which is a hydroxyalkyl group-containing (meth)acrylate of formula II, wherein R1 is defined as above and R3 is a hydroxyalkyl (e.g., 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate) and then the polymerization is carried out. Even in case of repeated polymerization reactions, it is possible to prevent scale deposition for a prolonged period of time.
