Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the fluctuation of zero point caused by temperature drift and the like without the need for special hardware by a method wherein the output of a tracer head is corrected with the output of the head under the condition that the head is kept at the definite location apart from a model as the reference point. CONSTITUTION:The tracer head 2 traces the profile model surface 4 and detects the displacements of a stylus 11 during the tracing of the surface. Differential transformers 12, 13 and 14 in the head 2 are excited by sinusoidal wave voltages supplied through an amplifier 16 from an exciting oscillator 17 and produce displacemets epsilonx, epsilony, epsilonz when the tip of the stylus 11 comes into contact with the profile model surface 4. Said displacements are converted to digital values by means of an AD converter 18 and brought in a microcomputer 19 and, after that, corrected with displacements epsilonox, epsilonoy and epsilonoz, which are detected and memorized in advance at the time when the head 2 is in suspense or when an approach mode is started or a draw-off mode is finished, as the basis.
