Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the transmission efficiency of a light guiding device for a photothyristor by contacting an optical fiber made of a quartz rod core using an air layer of concentrical shape with the clad of outer periphery when the optical fiber for transmitting a gate signal light is disposed at the gate of the photothyristor. CONSTITUTION:A photothyristor 12 is secured onto an electrode base 11, and the photothyristor 12 is surrounded by a cylindrical case 13 disposed on the base 11 at the lower end. A metallic sleeve 14 is passed through the upper end of the case 13, and the lower end of the optical fiber 15 inserted into the sleeve is approached to the gate of the photothyristor 12. In this structure, the optical fiber 15 is made of a quartz tube 17 to which a quarts rod 16 is coaxially inserted to become a core, both ends 19, 20 are welded over the entire periphery, and air is filled in the space 18 between the rod 16 and the tube 17. In this manner, the air layer is used as a clad, thereby reducing the critical angle of causing total reflection of the light ray. Thus, the light transmitted out of the rod 16 is reduced, thereby enhancing the transmission efficiency of the optical fiber.
