Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare microbial cellular particles entrapping seaweed gel, by suspending microbial cells in a solution of alginic acid or carrageenan, and extruding the suspension from a nozzle into a coagulating solution.
CONSTITUTION: A microbial cellular suspension is introduced from a tank 7 of an alginate salt or carrageenan solution containing suspended microbial cells through a pump 13 and a solenoid valve 5 into the upper part of a cylinder 1 with a jacket 14. On the other hand, a compressed gas is blown from a gas reservoir 11 through a sterilizing filter 4 and a blowing inlet 21 into the upper part of the cylinder 1 to extrude the microbial cellular suspension through the tip of a nozzle 2. At this time, the compressed gas sterilized by a sterilizing filter 4 is blown from a blowing inlet 17 at the side of a droplet-forming auxiliary box 3 to form droplets, which are dropped to a gel hardening apparatus 18 consisting of an aqueous solution of calcium chloride or potassium chloride.
