Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the temp. distributions of a hot rolled steel strip uniform and to improve the flatness thereof in the stage of cooling said steel strip by measuring the broadside temp. distributions of the strip, comparing the same with an optimum temp. distribution and controlling the cooling by cooling water in the broadside direction of the strip in accordance with the deviations thereof. CONSTITUTION:Just before a hot rolled steel strip W out from the finishing mill 11 of a hot rolling mill enters a coiler 13, the temp. distributions in the broadside direction thereof are measured with a broadside temp. distribution measuring device 5, and are compared with the broadside optimum temp. distribution of the steel plate W with an arithmetic device 6, which calculates the deviations between both. The signals by the deviation values are fed to driving mechanisms 8, 9, which in turn move baffle plates 1A, 1B and 2A, 2B provided freely movably back and forth between upper and lower headers 14 and 15 for cooling water provided above and below the strip W and the steel strip adequately, thereby cooling the strip W until it has the uniform broadside temp. distributions. The strip W is cooled in such a way as to have uniform temp. distributions in its broadside direction and it is coiled with the coiler 13 in the state of having improved flatness.
