PURPOSE:To improve the reproduced S/N, by setting a main magnetic pole and an auxiliary magnetic pole opposite to each other centering on a vertical magnetic recording medium to ensure the recording of high density and forming a closed magnetic path leading to said magnetic recording medium by combining the main magnetic pole with a yoke auxiliary electrode. CONSTITUTION:A vertical magnetic recording head consists of a main magnetic pole 3 obtained by covering the circumference of a strip 1 made of a material having high magnetic permeability with a protecting material and an auxiliary magnetic pole 5 opposite to the pole 3 centering on a vertical magnetic recording medium A and having a coil 4 made of a material having high magnetic permeability. A current corresponding to the record information is applied to the coil 4 to perform the recording of high density to a magnetic layer 6 of the medium A. For the reproducing head, the pole 3 covered with a protecting material 2 having a magnetic axis 1 vertical to the surface of a magnetic layer 6 is provided, and the pole 5 is set with a minute gap secured to the pole 3 by enclosing the pole 3. Then the coil 4 is wound around the pole 5. A yoke auxiliary magnetic pole 8 forms a closed magnetic path leading to the medium A, and a minute gap is produced between the pole 8 and the surface of the layer 6. Thus both efficiency of the magnetic energy and the reproduced S/N are improved for the reproduction.
