Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve operation efficiency by performing recording on a recording medium by synthesizing a digital electric signal, generated by converting optical information from an information carrier, and an information signal from a different information source, and then controlling a light beam by the composite signal. CONSTITUTION:A laser beam emitted from a laser oscillator 1 is guided to the input opening of a transducer 3 through a reflecting mirror 2. Then, an electric signal obtained by transducing optical information from an information carrier and an information signal from a different information source are synthesized by a signal synthesizing means 37 to generate a composite signal, which is applied to a modulator 3 to modulate the laser beam. Then, the modulated laser beam is increased in beam diameter by a beam expander 4 in the form of parallel light. The laser beam is supplied to a polygonal rotary mirror 5 to obtain a horizontall swept laser beam 12, which is imaged as a spot on a photosensitive drum 8 by an imaging lens 7 having f-theta characteristics.
