Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve excellent corrosion resistance and wear resistance, to reduce spacing loss, and to increase the reproducing efficiency, by coating a recording medium sliding surface of a head with a wear resistant material and coating a MR element with a corrosion resistant material. CONSTITUTION:A layer 101 made of ,e.g. TiO2 having >= 1 ohm-cm specific resistance is formed on a glass base 3, in 1mum thickness. An MR element 5 and a lead wire 4 are formed by using the electron beam vapor deposition and the photolithography, a similar layer 101' made of TiO2 is coated on the layer 101 and the element 5 in 1mum thickness and a glass base 3' is bonded on it to constitute a reproducing head. As a result of running test in contact with a recording medium through the use of the reproducing head thus constituted, an uneven surface unlike as conventional processes is not caused on the sliding surface and the corrosion resistance is very excellent.
