Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a storage circuit storing the number of terminal stations, and a control circuit for detecting a by-pass station, by transmitting one frame for minitoring the number of terminal stations and then counting flag bits by a minitor station after the frame has one round of a loop transmission line. CONSTITUTION:When a monitor station 2 is to minitor the number of terminal stations connected to a transmission line, a flag adding circuit sends the flag of, for example, the 3rd frame to the transmission line as a ''1''. A terminal station 3 receives the transmitted signal from the monitor station 2 and since the flag of the received signal in the 3rd frame is the ''1'', the flag adding circuit operates to transmit a transmitted singnal, wherein the flag in the 3rd frame is set to a ''1'', to a next terminal station 4. The terminal station performs similar operation to transmit a transmitted signal wherein the flag in the 3rd frame is set to a ''1''. The monitor station 2 receives a transmitted signal which has taken one round of the loop and counts the number of the ''1''s as received flags, thus confirming the number of terminal stations.
