Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a bolt of high strength while producing a very small strain by heat treatment by irradiating the surface of the screw part with beams of light from a heat source with high energy density to carry out surface hardening. CONSTITUTION:A bolt 1 is attached to a miving device 11, and it is rotated and moved in the axial direction so that the screw bottom of the bolt 1 is irradiated with laser beams 9a emitted from a laser oscillator 8 and condensed through a lens 10. The irradiation is carried out while properly controlling the heat treatment conditions such as the density of laser beams from the oscillator 8, the emitting time and the spirally moving speed of the bolt 1 moved with the device 11 by means of a controller 12. The irradiated part of the bolt is rapidly heated and rapidly cooled to obtain a surface hardened layer by local hardening.
