Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a heat-resistant yellow pigment suitable for use as a colorant especially for polyolefin resin by mixing a prescribed percentage of iron oxide with a prescribed percentage of zinc oxide or zinc carbonate after which the mixture is calcined by heating, pulverized, and annealed.
CONSTITUTION: To 50.0W52.0mol% iron oxide such as Fe2O3 is added 50.0W 48.0mol% zinc oxide or zinc carbonate, and they are mixed and calcined at 800W 1,000°C. The calcined material is pulverized with a pulverizer such as a vibrating mill so as to set the specific surface area according to the BET method to about 4W 6m2/g. The resulting powder is annealed at 600W1,000°C to obtain heat-resistant yellow pigment powder. When this powder is used as a yeloow pigment for coloring resin, the discoloration of the colored resin in heat molding can be minimized as compared to a conventional yellow pigment made of composite oxide of iron and zinc.
