Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate looping-back operation in case of a fault, by detecting a carrier on a double loop transmission line. CONSTITUTION:If a transmission line 6 is broken, a carrier detection signal 316 disappears a prescribed time later, and a transmitter 3 enters into a passive loop-back mode thereafter. In this mode, a control circuit 313 inhibits a transmitting circuit 324 from sending a carrier out, and a switching circuit 312 selects the output of a receiving circuit 321 and inputs it to a data processor 315. A carrier detection signal 225 is ceased a prescribed time after the carrier transmission of the transmitting circuit 324 is inhibited, and the transmitter 2 enters into an active loop-back mode thereafter. In this mode, a control circuit 223 allows a switching circuit 222 to select and input the output of a data processing circuit 215 to a transmitting circuit 224, and a carrier is modulated by the input signal and sent to a transmission line 5; and a transmitting circuit 214 is controlled according to a prescribed program and its output is sent out to the transmission line 6 periodically.
