Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat radioactive metallic waste in a perfectly hermetic state by constituting a device for electroslag melt treatment specifically of molds, a bucket for charging objects to be treated, an opening-closing shutter between both, electrodes and a shielding gas supply pipe.
CONSTITUTION: A water-cooled surface plate 2 on a carriage 3 is stopped approximately right under the treating device. Water cooled mold bodies 1a, 1b of tapered inner side surfaces which are bisected longitudinally at approximately the center and expand in the direction of the split surfaces are brought closer to each other to one body, whereby a mold 1 is assembled. Flux or ground materials of residual slags are beforehand charged into the mold, and non-consumable electrodes 8a, 8b are lowered through the hole of a shutter 10. While a shielding gas is supplied through a pipe 12, the slag is melted.
