CONSTITUTION: Slurry of powdered coal and water in the blender 2 is made into the flow 107 by the pump 3, an oil in the tank 4 is made to flow through the pump 5 and added to the flow 107. After the oil is attached to a carbonaceous component in the flow 110 efficiently and selectively, the slurry is separated into an oily phase and a water phase by the decanter 6, the oily phase is taken out from the flow 112 so that the carbonaceous component is separated, while the water phase is taken out from the flow 113 so that the ash is separated. in order to improve the contact efficiency between the slurry and the oil, an orifice mixer or static mixer having transporting pipes provided with constriction parts from which the oil is added is preferably used.
