Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the sufficient removal of As in such an extent not to make it a catalyst poison, by treating a petroleum fraction with active carbon, and to make it easily reclaimable and reusable, by washing the active carbon adsorbing As with a specific solvent first and then with water.
CONSTITUTION: Arsenic (As) in a petroleum fraction is adsorbed on active carbon and removed. The active carbon adsorbing As having lowered removing ability is washed with a solvent (e.g., acetone, ethanol, etc.) having both hydrophilic ad hydrophobic nature, further with water, reclaimed, and used repeatedly as active carbon for adsorbing and removing As. Active carbon having a specific surface area of 1,000W1,800m2/g, an average pore diameter of 25W40Å, and a pore volume of 1.0W1.5cm3/g is preferable as the active carbon.
