Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent folding defects and to improve the yield of products by edging a material during the course of broadside rolling and subjecting the same again to the broadside rolling. CONSTITUTION:A slab S of a width W0 and a length L0 shown in (A) is subjected to broadside fore rolling with horizontal rolls to have the length L1 shown in (B). Then, it is subjected to chamfer rolling with vertical rolls 1 as shown in (C). The material S is rotated 90 deg., and is subjected to broadside rolling as shown in (D). If the slab undergoes 2-3 passes of this broadside rolling, folding defects are produced in the leading and trailing end parts in the advance direction of the slab S and therefore it is again rotated 90 deg. and is edged with the rolls 1 as shown in (E). If the edging is finished, the slab S is further rotated 90 deg. and is subjected to broadside rolling with horizontal rolls. When the prescribed width W is attained as shown in (F), it is rotated 90 deg., and is finish rolled to the prescribed width W and the length L as shown in (G).
