Abstract

PURPOSE: To collect the titled substance from a culture medium, by cultivating a variant strain, belonging to the genus Corynebacterium, and having the resistance to a vitamin-P active substance.
CONSTITUTION: Corynebacterium glutamicum AJ11589(FERM-P No. 5644), etc. having a high ability to produce L-ornithine is collected from a strain of the genus Corynebacterium, e.g. Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC13032 or Corynebacterium acetoacidophilum ATCC13870, by the ordinary variant inducing method. The variant strain is a strain capable of growing in a culture medium containing a compound having the vitamin-P activity, e.g. aesculetin (esculetin), acenocoumaine or rutin. The variant strain is then cultivated in a culture medium containing a carbon source, a nitrogen source, inorganic ions, etc. to collect the L-ornithine by using an ion exchange resin, etc.
