Abstract
PURPOSE:To simplify the discrimination of a characters and a mark when the prescribed positions of a character image can not detected owing to the influence of noise etc. by providing the 1st and 2nd detecting means to output character discrimination starting signals when the character image reaches the prescribed position of a two-dimensional sensor is detected. CONSTITUTION:The horizontal direction of a paper 3 is scanned by a scanner 1 held by the hand 2 of an operator, characters and marks of the paper 3 is read by the two-dimensional sensor 6 of the scanner 1 and the read electric signal is converted into a binary signal by a binary converting circuit 7. The binary signal from the circuit 7 is applied to a cutting circuit 13 and a discriminating circuit 12 to detect the character image reaches the prescribed position of the sensor 6 by the circuit 13 and output a character discrimination starting signal VHO. The outputs (c) and (d) from the circuit 13 are applied to block and white detecting flags 14, 15 respectively and the 2nd detecting means consisting of the flags 14, 15 and the AND gates 16, 17 detects that the character image passes through the prescribed position of the sensor 6. When the discrimination starting signal VH is outputted from the 2nd detecting means, the circuit 12 starts the discrimination of the character.
