USE: Intermediate for the preparation of 5-chloro-3-[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1-piperazinyl]-carbonylmethyl-2-benzothiazolinone having antiphlogistic activity and analgesic activity.
PROCESS: The compound of formulaIis prepared by reacting piperazine or its monoacidic salt of formula II with the protected ethanol derivative of formula III in a proper solvent at 70W90°C for 10W30hr to obtain N-β-protected hydroxyethyl-piperazine of formula IV or its monoacidic salt, and reacting the porduct with the acetic acid derivative of formula V or its reactive derivative at the carboxyl group in a solvent under cooling or heating.
