Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a zoom lens of large zoom ratios having compact and simple lens frame construction by satisfying prescribed conditions in a lens system consisting of positive, negative, positive and positive five lens elements suc- cessively from the object side. CONSTITUTION:In a lens system consisting of positive, negative, positive, negative and positive five lens elements successively from the object side, (1) in the entire area of zooming the partial system of the 1st and 2nd lens elements has a negative combined focal length, and the partial system consisting of the 3rd-5th lens elements has a positive combined focal length; (2) the 3rd and 5th lens elements are moved as one body, and (3) to zoom the lens from the wide angle end to the telephoto end, the respective lens elements move in such a way that the space between the 1st and 2nd lens elements and the space between the 3rd and 4th lens elements increase and the space between the 2nd and 3rd lens elements and the space between the 4th and 5th lens elements decrease.
