Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a tape which is satisfactory in follow-up property to a magnetic head, etc., and excellent in durability, by forming a magnetic meatllic film which has provided a space exceeding specific width, on the base with specific density, filling the space with a lubricant, and giving flexibility to the magnetic film. CONSTITUTION:For instance, a polyester base film is brought to plasma treatment under the pressure-reduced atmosphere of Ar and O2 mixing gas, and a film 1 which has worked a rough surface to a craped pattern whose plane roughness is about 0.02mu, on the surface is made. A magnetic film 2 is formed by slantingly vapor-depositing a metal such as Co, Ni, etc., or a magnetic metal such as an alloy consisting of said metals and Cu, Al, etc. In this way, as shown in the expanded drawing of a part II of a tape, a space 3 which is >=100Angstrom width and is formed >=1 or more in 20mu is formed on the magnetic layer 2 due to existence of a projection 6 on the base 1, and vapor-deposited parts 4, 4' of the magnetic layer 2 is cut separately. A magnetic layer 4 is formed with microscopic width (20-30Angstrom ) at a small angle (beta) against a vapor-depositing incident angle (alpha). The space 3 can be filled with a lubricant. In this way, it is possible to obtain a magnetic tape which is excellent in follow-up property and satisfactory in electromagnetic conversion characteristic.
