Abstract
PURPOSE: To working fluid for a Rankine cycle engine highly efficiently recovering at a low cost waste heat energy at 200W300°C formerly discharged in vain, which comprises a mixed soln. consisting of specified proportion of acetone and toluene.
CONSTITUTION: A mixed soln. consisting of acetone and 80wt% or less toluene is used as a working fluid used for a Rankine cycle engine for waste heat recovery. As said working fluid, acetone has advantages of small latent heat (about 1/5 of that of water), large heat recovery, low specific vol. of vapor at a turbine outlet (about 1/28 of that of water) resulting in a small-size turbine, relatively low toxicity, the maximum heat-resisting temp. of 480°C which is higher than that of the desired maximum temp. of 300°C causing no decomposition of the working fluid, cheapness, etc., and toluene has high affinity for acetone and excellent thermodyamic characteristics. Therefore it is possible to recover waste heat at 200W300°C by using a mixt. of the both.
