Abstract
PURPOSE:To decide on the thermal diffusivity of a heat-resisting material easily and rationally by heating the center part of a discoid test bar by arc discharge, and then measuring a time when a thermocouple buried in the external circumferential area of a disk starts rising in temperature. CONSTITUTION:A gap adjustment bar 7 flexes a beltlike plate 5, whose elasticity holds a precribed interval between an electrode 2 for arc heat generation and a discoid test bar 1 having a radius (b) enough for flight. Then, the output of an arc generator 13 is applied between the electrode 2 and test bar 1 through high power source conductors 9 and 10 for discharge, thereby heating the area of the test bar 1 having a center-part radius (a) rapidly. The outputs of thermocouples 17 and 17' buried at the same radius position (r) with the test bar 1 are supplied to an electromagnetic oscillograph 20 to record temperature rise starting time t0 at the position, so that thermal diffusivity (k) is determined from k=b<2>. tau/t0 by using a characteristic dimensionless time tau determined for a center part heat radius a/b and a thermocouple temperature measurement position r/b, and the time t0.
