Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the initial performance and the life performance of a pasted lead battery by dispersing porous silica particles over an electrode plate packed with an active material, and burying the main parts of the silica particles into the said active material. CONSTITUTION:A pasted lead electrode plate is prepared by packing a paste made of lead used as an active material 1 into a base plate by a usual method. Next, porous silica 2 (for example, 0.5wt% to lead powder of silica particles having air pockets 3, a porosity of above 90%, an apparent density of about 0.3g/cc and a grain diameter of 15-30 mesh) is dispersed over the electrode plate packed with the paste. After that, the main part of the silica 2 is buried into the electrode plate by pressing the silica 2. Since spaces 4 are formed in the interfaces between the silica 2 and the active material 1, electrolyte entering into the spaces 4 contributes to the electric discharge reaction.
