Abstract
PURPOSE: To save a consumption amount of fossil fuel in a sewage-purifying plant, by transferring energy, retained in digested sludge discharged from a digestion vessel, to waste matter slurry in a heat exchanger arranged just before the slurry is injected into the digestion vessel.
CONSTITUTION: Sluice valves 9, 12 are ordinarily closed, while other sluice valves 10, 11, 13, 14 are ordinarily opened. Sludge introduced through a sludge inlet 2 flows through a heat exchanger 8 into a digestion vessel 1. On the other hand, disgested sludge is discharged from the digestion vessel 1, and carried through a digested sludge-transfer pump 6 and the heat exchanger 8 to a digested sludge outlet 3. In this case, heat is transferred from the digested sludge to the sludge, since there is generally a positive temperature difference between the temperature td of the digested sludge and the temperature t's of the sludge in the heat exchanger 8. Consequently, the sludge is heated, while the digested sludge is cooled. As a result, the total energy necessary for heating the digestion vessel 1 is reduced to nearly half as that in a conventional manner.
