Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hot working cast tool having enhanced seizing wear resistance and a remarkably improved service life under conditions which cause severe wear at high temp. or the conditions of use receiving a thermal impact by rapid heating and cooling, by forming a firm protective oxide coat based on a casting oxide surface.
CONSTITUTION: A tool having an alloy composition consisting of 0.15W0.60% C, ≤1.50% Si, ≤1.50% Mn, ≤2.00% Ni, 0.30W3.50% Cr, ≤2.50% (1/3W+Mo), 2.00W6.00% Co, ≤5.00% Cu and the balance essentially Fe is prepared. After casting the alloy into the tool or working an alloy casting into the tool, the tool is subjected to oxidation treatment in air, a steam atmosphere or the like according to the purpose or usage to form an oxide coat having ≥10μm thickness on the tool surface. As a result, a hot working cast tool having especially high wear resistance under the conditions of severe friction between it and a material to be worked at high temp. is obtd. This tool has moderate strength, superior toughness, high heat conductivity and a long life besides said wear resistance.
