Abstract

PURPOSE:To weld the inside of the narrow groove of thick plates soundly by cooling an electrode and a nozzle and making the torch insertable into the groove while assuring the current capacity necessary for welding. CONSTITUTION:A titled torch is formed of a nozzle side torch body 5, plasma gas passages 12a, 12b communicating with a nozzle hole 11, cooling water passages 21a provided on both sides of the body 5 in its longitudinal direction in order to cool a nozzle tip 10, and further, an electrode side torch body 2 inserted with a non-consumable electrode rod 1 in the central part, a water flow passage 23 provided to the body 2, and shielding gas passages 16a, 16b for flowing a shielding gas 18 to the leading end part of the torch. Said body 5 is electrically insulated, is formed to a flat shape narrower than the width of the groove and is mounted with the tip 10 for narrowing the plasma arc 32 with the nozzle hole 11. By the above-mentioned torch, a sound weld zone is obtained in the narrow groove of thick plates 31 to be welded.
