Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polysaccharide having extremely strong antitumor activity from an extracted solution which is obtained by extracting a fruit body or a culture mycelium of a strain belonging to the genus Pseudoplectania with an aqueous solvent.
CONSTITUTION: A fruit body or a culture mycelium of a strain K-1426(FERM-P 5803) belonging to the genus Pseudoplectania is extracted with an aqueous solvent. The mycelium can be obtained by solid culture and liquid culture. The prepared extracted solution and a culture filtrate in the case of the liquid culture are treated by salting out, solvent precipitation, dialysis, etc., and, if necessary, by removal of protein, and purified to give an antitumor polysaccharide. The prepared polysaccharide is whiteWlight yellow powder, and its main component is a high polymer glucane having β-bond, consisting only of glucose as a constitutional ingredient.
