Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by the formula (n is an integer 0W7).
EXAMPLE: 4-(α-D-Glucosyl)-deoxynojirimycin.
USE: A medicine having an amylase inhibitory action, and usable for diabetes, hyperlipemia, lipemia, etc.
PROCESS: A bacterial saccharifying amylase produced by Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 27505) is reacted with an α-1,4-combination product of glucose, e.g. starch, soluble starch, dextrin or oligosaccharide, in an aqueous medium, and the reaction product is then adsorbed in an ion exchange resin column, washed with water and eluted to give the compound expressed by the formula. The compound is then subjected to the column chromatography to isolate the respective components.
