Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formulaI(X is H, halogen or lower alkyl; n is 1 or 2; R1 and R2 are H, OH, lower alkyl, etc.).
EXAMPLE: N,N-Dimethyl 2-benzyloxybenzoic acid amide.
USE: A component of herbicides. It is effective to the weeds in the paddy field, e.g. cockspur-grass, umbrella plant, etc. and harmful grasses in the plowed land, e.g. green amaranth, large crab-grass, etc., and harmless to rice plant and soybean.
PROCESS: The compound of formulaIcan be prepared by reacting a benzyl halide of formula II (Y is halogen) with an o-hydroxybenzoic acid amide derivative of formula III in the absence of solvent or in an inert organic solvent (e.g. toluene, xylene, etc.) in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating agent (e.g. Na2CO3, K2CO3, etc.) under heating. The compound of formulaIis applied at a rate of 1W2,000g/10 a in the form of wettable powder, emulsifiable concentrate, etc. containing the compound in an amount of 0.1W50%.
