Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a carrier which exhibits superior characteristics in purification of exhaust gases of internal combustion engines by including hard-to- dissolve powder which can be removed by firing in a coating slurry contg. activated alumina and coating the carrier with this slurry.
CONSTITUTION: A slurry is prepd. of activated alumina, and a solid powder material such as, for example, a synthetic resin, which is hard to dissolve, is non water absorptive and can be removed by firing and a binder. This slurry is deposited on the surface of the carrier of monolithic type structure consisting of ceramic type or heat resistant metal. The carrier deposited with this slurry is fired to remove the powder solids. Thereby, the activated alumina film having macropores is formed on the carrier surface.
