Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify the pyrolysis gas in a dry system without generating harmful waste water, by a method wherein the pyrolysis gas containing various harmful components is brought into reaction with an alkali powder at a high temperature, then the reaction products are removed by filtration and tar is removed by combustion.
CONSTITUTION: The pyrolysis gas coming out from a pyrolyzing furnace 1 for city wastes or the like and containing harmful components such as dust, tar, HC, SOx and NH3 is fed into a heat exchanger 2 and is heated to a temperature of 250°C or higher. The heated gas is then fed into a reactor 3, where it is brought into reaction with the alkali powder such as CaO, Ca(OH)2, CaCO3, Na2O and Na2CO3 to form CaCl2, CaSO3 and the like. The gas with the reaction products is passed through a filter layer 4 packed with sand, gravel or the like to remove the reaction products together with the dust by filtration. Then, the gas is fed to a burner 6 for the pyrolyzing furnace 1 by a blower 5 to remove by combustion the gaseous tar contained in the gas. Accordingly, since the whole purification process is conducted in a dry system, the pyrolysis gas can be purified without by-producing harmful waste water.
