Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce PE having an easily controllable die swell ratio, by (co) polymerizing ethylene or ethylene plus an α-olefin in three separate steps, each including specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of a catalyst consisting of an organic Al compound and a reaction product between an Mg compound and a titanium halide, ethylene or ethylene plus an α-olefin are (co)polymerized in three separate steps including polymerization proportions and polymerization conditions shown in the table, whereby in step (a), there is formed an ethylene (co)polymer, α-olefin content ≤10wt%, limiting viscosity 0.3W1.5, in step (b), there is formed ethylene (co) polymer, α-olefin content ≤30wt%, limiting viscosity 1.5W7 and in steps (c), there is formed an ethylene (co)polymer, α-olefin content ≤30wt%, limiting viscosity 7W40.
EFFECT: It is possible to adjust the die swell ratio of PE to 1.3W1.8 without detriment to its mechanical strength.
