Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent breakdown of switch elements due to overcurrent, by providing a transistor (TR) which short-circuits a control circuit when a voltage drop due to a resistor connected in series with the switch element is a prescribed value or more and interrupts the switch element. CONSTITUTION:A protection circuit P is provided between a switch element SCR and a control circuit C. When a normal current flows to the circuit, a voltage drop across a resistor R of the circuit P is normally <=0.7 volt, a TRQ turns off and a signal from the circuit C flows to the SCR as shown in the arrow A and the SCR is conductive. If an overcurrent flows to the SCR because of short- circuit, etc. of a load, the voltage drop of the resistor R exceeds 0.7 volt and the TRQ turns on. As a result, a signal from the circuit C does not flow to the SCR but flows to the TRQ as shown in the arrow B, the SCR is interrupted, no overcurrent flows and the breakdown of the switch element can be prevented.
