Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a polymer in high catalytic efficiencies even at high temperatures with good process ecomomy, by copolymerizing ethylene with an α- olefin by use of a specified catalyst containing a reaction product between an organomagnesium compound and a halogen compound.
CONSTITUTION: Ethylene is copolymerized with an α-olefin other than ethylene or a polyene at a temperature ≥120°C in one or more of reaction zones in the presence of (A) a catalyst component prepared by contacting a titanium compound and a vanadium compound with a reaction product between a hydrocarbon solvent-soluble organomagnesium compound represented by formulaI, wherein M is a GroupIWIII metal of the periodic table, α, p, q, r and s are each ≥0 and satisfy relationships (II) and (III), wherein m is the valence of M, t≥0, R1 and R2 are each a 1W20C hydrocarbyl, X1 and X2 are each H, a halogen, oxygen or the like and D is an electron-donating organic compound, and at least one member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen chloride, organic halides, boron, aluminum and silicon and (B) an organoaluminum compound represented by formula IV, wherein R3 is 1W20C hydrocarbyl group, X3 is a halogen or the like and 2<n<3.
