Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an optimum and stable electric discharge machining state at all times, by detecting the time when the tip of an electrode has pierced a material to be machined, based on a servo voltage change pattern and a pressure of a machining liquid, so that the machining is automatically completed. CONSTITUTION:To detect electrically the servo voltage change pattern, a servo voltage detecting apparatus 18, a converter 36 and a servo voltage change pattern discriminating circuit 38 are provided. To detect electrically the pressure of a machining liquid, a machining liquid pressure detecting apparatus 26, a converter 36, a pressurized liquid pressure discriminating circuit 42 and an inverting circuit 46 are detected. When piercing has been done, since the output signal from a servo voltage change pattern discriminating circuit 38 is ''H'', and the output signal from the inverting circuit 46 is ''H'', an AND circuit 40 feeds a stopping signal to an electrical source unit 16 to cut the power source to complete the machining.
