PURPOSE:To remarkably improve the working efficiency of a file and an access speed, by dividing the file into a page index part and a page group of fixed length, and storing data recored in a variable length format. CONSTITUTION:A file 4 is divided into N+1 number of pages 8 of fixed length and one page index part 9. A data record in stored in the N+1 number of pages 8 in the ascending order of a key, and only the key, data and effective information are stored in a variable length format. In case when a specific data record is accessed, the data record concerned is accessed by reading out the page index part 9, comparing a key of a data record to be accessed, with the page index 10, and comparing the keys in order in the pages 8.
