Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure stress distributions in the width direction of a belt-like magnetic material instantaneously by dividing magnetostrictive sensors to two groups, and moving the respective groups in the width direction in conformity with the respective end part positions in the direction of the belt-like magnetic material. CONSTITUTION:The 1st magnetostrictive sensor group 42 and the 2nd magnetostrictive sensor group 44 consisting of plural pieces of L-shaped magnetostrictive sensors 40 are so arranged as to be moved in the width direction by means of a positioning cylinder. The sensors 42, 44 are so disposed that the respective sensors 40 are located specularly symmetrically with respect to the centerline C of a rolled steel plate 18, whereby the stress detecting positions of the groups 42, 44 are made symmetrical on the right and left. When tension acts in the rolling direction, differences are generated in the voltage detected by the coils 66, 68 in the respective directions, and from these voltage differnces, the stress distributions of the plate 18 are determined.
