Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit bright displaying with improved contrast and to improve the life of the display by providing antireflection films on both surfaces of substrates, and providing electrodes on the antireflection film on the side of an electrooptic material layer thereby constituting electrode plates. CONSTITUTION:An upper electrode plate is constituted of a substrate 22, antireflection films 21, 25, and a conductive film 28, and a lower electrode plate is constituted of a substrate 24, antireflection films 23, 26, and a conductive film 28. An electrochromic material 29 is sealed on the inner side sealed with a sealing material 27. The reflectivity observed on the surface of the liquid crystal display device constitued in this way is slight, and when liquid crystal displaying is accomplished by applying voltage to this display device, extremely bright electrooptic images are visible.
