Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively dewater organic sludge having an electric conductivity of 10,000μs/cm or more, by adding a cationic high-molecular flocculant to the organic sludge and then adding an anionic high-molecular flocculant to the organic sludge.
CONSTITUTION: A cationic high-molecular flocculant is added to organic sludge, e.g. excess sludge, containing high concentration of in organic salts and having an electric conductivity of 10,000μs/cm or more, which is formed when high BOD-concentration waste water is diluted with sea water and purified with active sludge. After the sludge is mixed and agitated, an anionic high-molecular flocculant is then added to the sludge. The sludge is further agitated and mixed to form flocks. The flocks are fed to a dehydrator and dewatered. The cationic high-molecular flocculant may be dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, methyl chloride or the like, while anionic high-molecular flocculant may be polyacrylic acid, a copolymer of acrylic acid with acrylamide or the like.
