Abstract

PURPOSE:To lighten the operation of a steering wheel, by providing a microcomputer for calculating an optimal operation value and a control valve for regulating pressurized oil on the basis of the output of the microcomputer. CONSTITUTION:A control valve 9 functions so that a required quantity of pressurized oil proportional to the magnitude and direction of operating force for a steering wheel is supplied into a power cylinder 3. When the speed of a vehicle is low and the direction change resistance of the wheels is high, a load sensor 11 detects that the torsion angle of an input shaft 2 is large, to heighten the pressure of the oil to be supplied to the power cylinder 3. When the vehicle speed is high, a microcomputer 10 controls its output level to augment the shifted quantity of the control valve 9 to increase the supplied quantity of the oil. Since the microcomputer 10 and the control valves 9 are provided, operation to move a piston 4 by the input shaft 2 is assisted by the oil pressure of an oil chamber 8A. For that reason, the operation of the steering wheel is lightened.
