Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled substance at a low pressure in high yield, by reacting carbon monoxide with hydrogen in the presence of a rhodium compound and alkali metallic compound and/or alkaline earth metallic compound and further a spherand compound.
CONSTITUTION: Carbon monoxide is reacted with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (A) a rhodium compound, (B) an alkali metallic compound and/or alkaline earth metallic compound and (C) a spherand compound at a ratio between the gram-atoms of the alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal to the rhodium in the component (A) of preferably about 0.1W30 and the ratio between the number of moles of the component (C) and the number of gram-atoms of the component (B) of preferably about 1W20 to give the titled compound. The molar ratio (CO/H2) between the carbon monoxide and the hydrogen gas is usually about (2/1)W(1/5).
